These newly constructed modernized buildings stand out on the farm complex, as one house measures 40’ * 501’ (the length of One and Two-Thirds soccer field) – their sheer presence is daunting and highly impressive against any international standard.

Currently with the minimum housing capacity of 540,000 birds per annum for both houses, the ‘state-of-the-art’ poultry facility is the first of its kind in the country. Full functionality are prevalent as they are all equipped with automatic silos, feeding and drinking systems, brooding as well as cooling systems. Unlike the older open-air houses on the farm site complex, the newer structures have insulted roofs, litter-covered dirt floors, curtain sides and tunnel ventilation  system uses fans to generating a high air velocity in the house, making it particularly effective in reducing heat stress in the warmer climates of Africa. Other benefits include greater control over the birds’ environment , fewer condemnations and downgrades , improved feed conversion, and better livability. The high level of investment required in constructing these sizeable houses often seen in developed countries , are offset by the economic benefits achieved through improved performances.

By embracing new technology and production methods, FG has gained a stronghold in the Ghanaian poultry industry, in concluding the first stage of a fully integrated commercial poultry production facility that is effective . integration reduces costs by coordinating each stage of production that is controlled to utilize resources and facilities with maximum efficiencies. The size of these houses ensures production practices, not only improve cost efficiency but also permits the production of more uniform birds. In today’s competitive marketplace, production strategies are crucial to the success of poultry production and require such a professional approach to the business.

A STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION-ADVANTAGEOUS TO ALL.

Management and production practices will be shared with others on a continual basis through the company’s R&D laboratories and training seminars on the Farm Complex, with seasoned professionals from other countries. For example , the construction team worked diligently with engineers from the USA whom were able to transfer knowledge and skills in assembling the prestigious facility , during a short period of time.

Ghana has a population of approximately 19 million people who need a daily protein requirement of 55 grams according to the World Health Organization standard. Prospects for increased poultry consumption are highly attainable, where family poultry farming is still very significant in Africa. 42 countries of the 53 on the Continent fall into the ‘low-income-high-importation-of-food’ category.

With large population of people still living in villages that are extremely poor, rural households are involved in poultry keeping. Faced with serious constraints, mortality rates are very high due to a combination of improper feeding practices, ignorance of management needs and poor distribution of vaccines. Programs will be designed to teach and train basic skills as well as supplying the necessary inputs for small poultry flocks, will all contribute to the nutrition and income of various rural families.

FG has established linkages with existing and new producers to transfer expertise and better enhance the management of resources in poultry production to stimulate the industry. This, combined with the entrepreneurial drive and energy FG brings, indicates a very strong and successful future for poultry in the region.

There is no doubt that the exciting times lie ahead and this is just the beginning paradigm shift for Ghanaian poultry industry; with sustained production all year round. The combination of highly skilled and competent human resources with large-scale commercial production techniques, presents a formula for success. Most importantly, it’s important to understand the poultry industry represents one way of accomplishing several national goals under a single banner. Employment, poverty alleviation and improved nutrition are all potential benefits from continued support and encouragement. Today, FG products are sold in cold stores, supermarkets, restaurants, fast food outlets and live chicken sale markets across the country.
