The Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) launched the 2009 GC100 Awards at Investment House. Businesses in Ghana are eager to find out if they will be honored in the most prestigious corporate awards in Ghana.
The annual event focuses on corporate excellence (both governance and performance) to encourage businesses in Ghana to demonstrate and lead the nation’s business efforts in the global business environment. Ranking companies serve as role models to the private sector and provide a forum for corporate Ghana to interact at the highest level.
The Ghana Club 100, instituted in 1997, presented its maiden awards in 1998 during US President Bill Clinton’s visit to Ghana. His Excellency President John Evans Atta Mills (then Vice-President of Ghana) represented President Jerry John Rawlings at the event and presented the awards.
This year’s event themed CELEBRATING GHANA’S BUSINESS LEADERS marks the eighth edition of the highly anticipated awards ceremony and publication. The theme has been chosen to incorporate Government’s vision for the private sector which drives the overall strategic direction of GIPC.
Award winners will be celebrated in all the seven key strategic sectors namely: Agriculture and Agri-business, Financial Services, ICT, Infrastructure, Manufacturing, Petroleum and Mining Services, and Tourism. It will also celebrate a number of other awards including naming the overall ‘’Ghana’s most respected Business - 2009’’.
This year’s awards follow extensive consultations with key stakeholders to upgrade our criteria to reflect our development needs and to celebrate the creation of new businesses. Winners will be recognized for their sector focus, actual growth, profitability, return on equity and potential.
The GC100 is also working with the Ghana Business Code to incorporate key elements of the code to provide a value based analysis of companies; corporate culture rather than a simple review of how much money each company may have spent on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Special Awards will be presented to entrepreneurs and outstanding performers in the small and medium scale enterprises.
The Ghana Investment Promotion Centre is the government agency re-established under the GIPC Act 1994 [Act 478] mandated to encourage, promote and facilitate investment in all sectors of the Ghanaian economy with the exception of mining, petroleum, free zone activities and the privatization of Government entities.
